RPI Academic Calendar 2023-2024: Important Dates

 

 

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) is a private research university in Troy, New York. Fall Semester 2023

The fall semester is the first and longest semester of the academic year. It starts on Monday, August 28 and ends on Saturday, December 16. Here are some of the highlights of the fall semester:

  1. Pre-registration for the Fall 2023 semester opens for currently enrolled students from March 20, 2023, to April 3, 2023.
  2. Fall 2023 registration add/drop reopens on May 1, 2023.
  3. RPI Fall Semester 2023 begins on August 28, 2023.
  4. RPI Reunion and Homecoming 2023 is from October 13, 2023 to October 14, 2023.
  5. The last day for students to drop classes for Fall Term III (Seven weeks only) is October 16, 2023.
  6. The last day to file an on-line Degree Application via SIS with Registrar’s Office for December 31, 2023 graduation is October 20, 2023.
  7. The last day for undergraduate and graduate students to drop a course for full term is October 20, 2023.
  8. Consultation weeks are from October 23, 2023, to November 3, 2023. Advisement for Spring 2024 registration. Students should consult with their faculty advisors.
  9. RPI Family Weekend is from October 27, 2023, to October 29, 2023.
  10. Doctoral dissertations are due to advisors on October 27, 2023, according to the RPI academic calendar 2023-2024.
  11. Master’s theses and Engineering projects are due to advisors for December 2023 graduates on November 3, 2023.
  12. Master’s theses are due in the Office of Graduate Education for December 2023 graduates. Last day to defend doctoral dissertations on November 13, 2023.
  13. RPI Thanksgiving Break 2023 is from November 22, 2023, to November 24, 2023. There no classes and Dining Halls closed.
  14. Classes resume on November 27, 2023, after the RPI thanksgiving break.
  15. Doctoral dissertations are due in the Office of Graduate Education for December 2023 graduates on November 27, 2023.
  16. The last day of Classes is December 8, 2023. It is the deadline for completion of NE/I grade expectations related to Summer 2023 courses.
  17. Reading/Study days are from December 11, 2023, to December 13, 2023. Instructors can schedule no exams nor require any student work expectations on these days.
  18. RPI fall 2023 Final Examinations are from December 14, 2023, to December 20, 2023.
  19. Residence halls close at noon on December 21, 2023. Resident dining halls close after dinner.
  20. December 31, 2023 is the Official date of December graduation; diplomas mailed to students after final clearance is completed in January. Degree recipients may take part in the May 2024 Commencement ceremony.

Spring Semester 2024

The spring semester is the second and shortest semester of the academic year. It starts on Monday, January 15 and ends on Saturday, May 5. Here are some of the highlights of the spring semester:

– Martin Luther King Jr. Day (no classes): Monday, January 15. This is a federal holiday that commemorates the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., a civil rights leader who fought for racial equality and social justice in America. You can use this day to learn more about his history and vision, attend some of the events and workshops that honor his memory, or engage in some community service or activism.
– Presidents Day (no classes): Monday, February 19. This is a federal holiday that honors the presidents of the United States, especially George Washington and Abraham Lincoln who were born in February. You can also stay on campus or in Troy and participate in some of the events and activities that are organized by RPI or the local community.
– Last day of classes: Friday, April 27. This is the last day of regular instruction for all courses. You should make sure that you have completed all your assignments, projects, and presentations by this date. You should also review your syllabus and prepare for your final exams.
– Final exams: Monday, April 30 – Friday, May 4. This is the period when you have to take your final exams for each course. The exams are usually cumulative and cover all the material that you have learned throughout the semester. You should study hard, manage your time well, and get enough sleep and rest during this stressful time.
– Commencement: Saturday, May 5. This is the day when you celebrate your academic achievements and receive your diploma if you are graduating.
